Check These 5 Things Before You Pay a $65 Service Fee.”
1. The Power Foundation
Is it plugged in? (Don’t laugh—vibrations from washers can slowly wiggle a plug loose).
Check the GFCI Outlet: Is the little "Reset" button popped out? Press it firmly.
Check the Breaker Box: Look for a switch that isn't fully in the "On" position. Flip it all the way "Off" and then "On."
Child Lock/Demo Mode: Look for a padlock icon on the display. Hold the designated button (usually 3 seconds) to unlock.
2. Refrigerators (Not Cooling)
The Dust Test: Are the coils underneath or behind the fridge covered in pet hair/dust? Vacuum them.
Clear the Vents: Is a giant bag of frozen peas blocking the air vent inside the freezer? Air needs to circulate to stay cold.
Door Seal Check: Close the door on a dollar bill. If it slides out easily, your gasket is leaking cold air.
Condenser Fan: If you hear a clicking sound, a stray object might be hitting the fan blade.
3. Washing Machines (Not Draining or Smelling)
The Drain Filter: (Front Loaders) Open the small door at the bottom front. Unscrew the cap (have a towel ready!) and clear out the coins, hair ties, and lint.
Kinked Hose: Pull the unit out. Is the gray drain hose pinched against the wall?
The "Sud" Lock: Did you use too much detergent? If you see "SUD" or "FL," run an empty rinse cycle to clear the bubbles.
4. Dishwashers (Not Cleaning or Draining)
The Sump Filter: Remove the bottom rack and twist out the cylindrical filter. If it’s slimy or covered in food, your dishes will never get clean.
The Air Gap: If water backs up into the sink, unscrew the silver cap on your sink deck and clear out the debris.
Spray Arm Clogs: Poke a toothpick into the tiny holes in the spinning arms to clear out hard water scale.
5. Dryers (Not Drying or Overheating)
The Wall Vent: Go outside while the dryer is running. Is the flap opening? If not, your vent is clogged—this is a major fire hazard.
Sensor Bars: Wipe the two metal strips inside the drum with rubbing alcohol. Fabric softener buildup "blinds" them, making them think clothes are dry when they aren't.
Lint Screen: If you use dryer sheets, wash your lint screen with soap and water once a month to remove invisible film.
STILL NOT WORKING? If you've checked all of the above, it might be a mechanical failure (heating element, pump, or control board).
