🧺 Washer Not Starting? Reset & Child Lock Fix Tips!

If your Maytag washer won’t start or respond, it may just need a quick reset — not a repair. Unplug your washer for 1–2 minutes, plug it back in, then open and close the lid 6 times within 12 seconds to reset the cycle. This often clears error codes or unresponsive controls.
Another common issue we see across Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, and Frigidaire washers is the Child Lock feature accidentally staying on. Look for a small “🔒” light on your display — to disable it, hold the “Child Lock” or “Control Lock” button for 3–5 seconds until the light turns off.
If your washer still won’t unlock, drain, or start a new cycle — it’s time for expert help. Our licensed appliance repair technicians service Maytag, LG, Whirlpool, Samsung, GE, and more across Clearwater, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, and St. Petersburg.

Quick Fix — Washer Child Lock / Control Lock (All Major Brands)
If your washer is locked and won’t start, try these brand-specific steps first. Most locks are re-enabled/disabled by holding a button or button combo for 3–6 seconds.
Common quick reset (works often)
Press and hold Child Lock / Control Lock / Lock button for 3–6 seconds.
If no dedicated button, press and hold Temp + Spin, High Temp + Spin, or Steam + Pause (depends on model) for 3–6 sec.
If that doesn’t work: power off (unplug or turn off breaker) for 60–120 seconds, then power back on and try again.
If still locked, cancel the cycle / press Pause/Cancel then hold lock button again.
Brand quick commands
Samsung
Look for Child Lock or a 🔒 icon.
Hold the Child Lock (or Temp + Spin) for 3–5 seconds until the light goes off.

Press and hold Child Lock / Control Lock (sometimes labelled Child/Control Lock) for 3–5 sec.
If model shows OE / UE, power cycle and retry.

Or hold the Child Lock icon button.

If the lock won’t release — quick troubleshooting
Power cycle: Unplug or flip breaker for 60–120 seconds, then plug back in.
Cancel cycle: Press Pause/Cancel or Start/Cancel, wait, then try lock combo.
Check error codes: Codes like 4C, OE, UE, F8E1, F5E2 may indicate water or door issues; clear codes by power cycling.
Door lock/strike fault: If the door is physically locked and the control won’t respond, door lock assembly might be faulty — call a pro.
No dedicated lock button? Try holding Temp + Spin, Delay + Start, or Steam + Pause (model dependent).
When to call a technician
Control lock light stays on after power cycle.
Door is physically locked and won’t unlock.
Repeated error codes after reset (4C, 5C, OE, UE, F series).
Water won’t drain; draining/locking issue persists.
